Math Units
We will work collaboratively and individually to investigate the material in the texts listed below. Our focus will be to solve real world situations using problem solving strategies and mathematical communication. All classwork and homework can be found on Schoology.
Students can find their Schoology account using the student portal that can be accessed using the new District website at http://www.colonialschooldistrict.org or http://www.colonialschooldistrict.org/parents-students/students/ Student username will be their [email protected] and their 8 digit date of birth. for updates at any time. Models you Can Count On – Developing a conceptual sense of ratios Expressions and Formulas – applying and using order of operations, interpreting relationships using inverse operations Let's Be Rational– Estimation, using the four operations, equations Covering and Surrounding– Discovering the links between area, perimeter and surface area. Comparing Quantities - Using informal strategies to organize, translate and solve systems of equations Operations - Using operations on positive and negative numbers and plotting ordered pairs in a four coordinate plane Dealing with Data– Analyzing measures of center and interpreting data displays Facts & Factors – Exploring prime numbers and and relating whole numbers, integers, rational and irrational numbers |
Science Units
The students will be involved with many interesting hands-on activities in science class. Our focus will be learning the content by working with others to solve scientific investigations. The five units of study are listed below.
My Body and Me – Scientific problem solving, experimental design, study of body systems. Forces and Motion – How forces affect the speed of moving objects. Electricity - Using simple, parallel and series circuits to observe the flow of electricity. Earth History – How weathering, erosion and deposition shape rock formations and using rocks of the Grand Canyon to study past geological events |
